TOP 6 ESSENTIAL WEDDING MAKEUP TIPS – LOOKING & FEELING BEAUTIFUL ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

Frenetically browsing the internet in search of makeup inspo? Here is what you need to know before you get started with all of that. These top 6 makeup tips can help you prepare for your big day and avoid regrettable mistakes.

1. TRENDS AND EXPERIMENTS ARE FOR A DIFFERENT DAY.

In other words, your wedding day is definitely not the day you want to experiment or get too trendy. Feeling like the best version of yourself and focusing on that effortless and timeless beauty is a much better (and safer) choice. Trends come and go in periodical cycles, I’m sure you don’t want to look back at your wedding photos 30 years from now and wonder who that person was and, most importantly, why are her brows so huge?!

2. CHOOSE A LIP COLOUR YOU’RE COMFORTABLE IN.

The lip is very important, even if you want the main focus to be on the eye. I always tell my brides to spend some time at the makeup counter and try on all the possible shades, and when you know, you know! I personally love a natural lip, not too pink, not too brown. If you like that too, look for a lipstick shade that’s similar to your own lip colour. My ultimate go-to for most skin tones is the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’. When looking for the one, avoid going for too glossy or too matte lipsticks. Super glossy lipsticks will only last five minutes while extremely matte ones (like lip stains, for example) may leave your lips looking dry and cakey. Best to opt for a moisturizing, satin finish lipstick that will wear off evenly. I always provide touch-up kits for my brides so you can re-apply easily throughout the day!

3. SCHEDULE YOUR FACIAL FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR WEDDING DATE.

Getting a facial is a great idea to prep your skin for makeup, but definitely avoid any treatment too close to your wedding date, even if you have gotten that same facial done in the past. Your skin changes with time, weather conditions, hormones, stress and seasons so you can never know for sure how it will react to cosmetic treatments. I recommend gentle exfoliating and hydrating treatments like Hydro and Oxygen facials.

4. DRINK A LOT OF WATER AND DON’T NEGLECT YOUR SKINCARE!

If your skin is dehydrated and patchy, even the lightest of foundations will accentuate the rough texture. Makeup can only do so much, you’re going to need to put in some work too to make sure your skin is looking its very best. Focus on hydrating products – we will be able to cover up the blemishes!

5. DON’T OVERDO YOUR SELF-TAN!

Please don’t! Looking sun-kissed is achievable even on lighter skin tones with makeup, you really don’t have to bathe in self-tan to get that healthy summer look. Lots can go wrong. Most commonly, if you have fair skin, there’s a good chance you may turn out orangy. That’s not something we can fix afterwards with makeup. That being said, as a fair-skin gal myself, I really like adding 2 drops of Clarins ‘Self Tan Radiance Booster’ to my nighttime moisturizer. This made-to-measure self-tan product will give your face and neck a settled yet healthy glow. If you like a full-body tan, it’s best to book a professional spray tan session and test it out months in advance. Once again, no surprises the week before your wedding!

6. BOOK YOUR H&M TRIAL.

Trials are more important than you might think, for both you and your makeup & hair artist. At the trial, you’ll be able to envision the look you had in mind and sit with it for some time. You might have an idea of what you like and what you don’t by looking for references online, but actually seeing that look on yourself might feel different. Wearing the hair and makeup look that will be created at your trial, will give you more clarity of what you feel comfortable with. A makeup trial is also great to see how the makeup will react on your skin over time. I always check in with my brides a few days after the trial to see if there are any comments and if anything can be improved.
